There are some good ones out there, and from a learning system standpoint some vendors in the B2B/B2C market are adding this capability. One e-learning vendor who has as part of their assessment solutions has an online proctoring component is Questionmark. They can integrate with any learning system out there.

Just in the past two years the per license cost of authoring tools has skyrocketed. Long has tools such as Studio and Captivate been on the higher side, the same can be said for vendors such as Rapid Intake and dominKnow. This solution reminds me of Articulate Studio in terms of its capabilities, but at a lower cost. 2 Articulate Storyline – I have to say that they are quite close to taking the number one spot, but they fall just a tad short. 9 iSpring Solutions- iSpring Suite - PowerPoint add on products are still a hot item in the space.

Rapid E-Learning Authoring Tools. As forementioned, Articulate offers an API for Articulate Online, Captive has one for a SCORM Player and does Rapid Intake. LMS Vendors. And then ask them if there is a cost for integrating APIs. Trust me, they will find other ways to recoup the alleged cost.

Some vendors’ sales people will show you their demo that includes all the bells and whistles that come with the solution and fail to mention that to you (they should). Solve it: When the vendor is showing you the LMS/LCMS ask them if that is included in the system or an extra cost. Make sure to write down what costs extra.

The downside to training management products is the inability to upload any other 3rd party authoring tool or courses from an off the shelf vendor. – but not a course from say Articulate or any of the other tools. Within those who show it all, some will show you things you are not buying and/or are unaware are extra costs.

While most people were oohing and awwing over Articulate’s Storyline, virtually no one was checking out Sh!FT’s The advantage of course, is cost. There is no additional cost. The next version of Articulate Studio will output to HTML5. FT’s Aura product. Lucky for me, I did. After that, it is fee based.

You can add various APIs to it, and it has some Yammer add-ons from other vendors, but why go through the hassle, when some LMS vendors take it to the next level. I know why people love Yammer, but its fee based product is not super low cost. LMS vendors surprised how many didn’t show up. Bottom Line.
