But not only is it the way they can express themselves (non-verbally and verbally) and communicate outward, but being able to "read" their class and have a sense of whos paying attention. you get their attention again. you get their attention again. I dont say that everything with this approach is great, it has some problems.

Im a linear reader in recovery and have been actively learning how to skim books and not feel guilty about it. Lots of practical ideas and examples for turning basic teaching points into learning games -- from casual games to teach facts and concepts, to detailed simulations that teach procedures and problem solving.

This gender gap is striking to me, too, in terms of who is talking about games/immersive learning and instructional design. Im right with you. Once he showed me the basics for moving around and got me thinking about problem-solving in the right way, I was hooked. Im a female instructional designer in my late 30s.

But I say that if these trainers have good content and their courses keep selling, whats the problem? How much of the pedagogy used by IDs is less to do with learning and more to do with design? And by asking this, Im not suggesting that design isnt important, for it is - its seen by some as part of the pedagogy.

A really common problem is to dump a lot of info into a course that would be more useful outside the course, searchable on the intranet or included in help files or even just printed on a card that learners can look at. > And then remind them why they still have to learn this stuff.
