Mobile Learning. LMSs – Finally vendors took notice. Sadly though many still are in the dark on true mobile learning – i.e. not accessing their platform via a mobile web browser. Authoring Tools – With only a small sample of vendors that are SaaS based, pickings are slim. A win in my book.

The minus: vendors come out of the woodwork to tell you their system meets those needs. I mean if you say you need “e-commerce for 500 users, certificates, ability to add users to groups for courses”, that would cover about 550 systems. Check various sites and read their reports. But how do they really know?

Q : I am curious on why Cornerstone On Demand, Saba and SumTotal do not appear in your top twenty lists even though they appear on other sites as the best products in the market. MOOCs need a business plan – at some point, one has to exist. No surprise that some vendors are also waiting to see what happens. M-Learning with a native app – slowly trucking along, but I am hearing quite a few vendors who are either in development or getting going in 2014. Again, it is hot, hot, hot.

I know a few vendors who had multiple meetings each day with potential clients – and the ones I am referring to where LMS vendors.

In a market this size, and with so many vendors overly focused on the U.S. and not necessarily worldwide (which should be the case), there is bound to be those vendors who are seeking new opportunities. Yet one of the items that is never mentioned are the customers and employees of the vendor who has been acquired. Some vendors will be flexible with you, and allow you to leave if you so desire, others less so.

Many vendors hyping PowerPoint to Flash angle as key feature. 57% offer a trial at various length, this is significantly higher than any other e-learning tool with over 40 vendors in the market.
