At the VLE is Dead symposium , there was an issue over the term PLE (Personal Learning Environment). or the PLE and rename will be a little more difficult, I predict. is a case in point.

VLEs are generally difficult to use, with far too much effort needed to be put into understanding how the system works, to the detriment of the time and effort spent actually learning. Typical PLEs will incorporate a social networking service, reflective and collaborative tools, e-mail and a mobile device. Over to you.

I like even more his idea of tribes, as groups of people that have purpose and communication. In more superstitious times, says Godin, the heretic was burned at the stake or at the very least, cast out from the community, undesirable, unwanted, a dissident. PLE will triumph over VLE.

If we time jumped from then to 2009, the way we now communicate, learn, search for information, share content and consume entertainment would be unrecognisable. The concept of personal learning environments was also introduced, as a counterpoint to the notion of the VLE. perhaps we could do without ringtones.
