by Jennie Ruby When I first heard the term elliptical sentence , I pictured a sentence that went around in an oblong circle. The word elliptical actually does not refer to the shape of the sentence, but rather to the concept of ellipsis: leaving something out. And that is not far from the truth.

Here’s a picture! He sites a study: the # variable for effectiveness in training is manager impact. Link effectiveness to context. Bob’s list of favorites: Job aids CoPs (wikis, blogs, forums) learning portal reference materials…. not the voiceover or the pictures. What does this mean to the learner?

If you can crack how to show relationships effectively on your slides then you’ll have your audience swiping right instead of left. But instead you can show these relationships – even simply – like this: The visual communicates a huge amount without you having to explain either as voiceover, or as text on the slide. Sound complicated?

The only way to have an effective video (that you’ve invested much time and money in) is to drive an advantage to these viewers. If you use that to establish what’s important to them, you can effectively create a need for them to watch your video. That goes to show how effective a video can be for educational purposes.
