ELEARNING DEVELOPMENT: The Levels of eLearning

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

I'm seeing a lack of clarity when it comes to developing eLearning content and how long it takes to create the eLearning courses. To help developers more accurately determine a level of effort, I need assistance from other professionals. Can you please tell me your opinion on the different eLearning levels? It's been widely accepted that there are three levels of eLearning. Fellow eLearning developers, what are your thoughts on this?

ARTICULATE STORYLINE 360: Text-to-Speech to Final Voiceover

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

While working on a recent eLearning project in Articulate Storyline 360, there was a delay in getting the voiceover audio back from our voiceover professional. While these kinds of delays are common, they don't need to derail the entire development process.

eLEARNING DEVELOPMENT: How Much Time Does It Take to Create eLearning?

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

One of the more common questions that I get from new eLearning developers is how much time does will take to produce published content. For instance, which eLearning tool are you going to use?   Here's another factor: how many minutes of eLearning playtime are you looking to produce? In my experience, it will take you approximately 2 hours of labor to produce 1 minute of eLearning playtime if you use Captivate or Storyline.

eLearning: When Should You Record Your Voiceover Audio?

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

by Kevin Siegel      Adding voiceover audio to eLearning enhances the learner experience. And before you spend thousands of dollars hiring voiceover talent to record your audio, you should know: your voice is fine (nobody likes their own voice so trust me on this, yours will do nicely). I've been creating eLearning for years (and years and years). I've found that the voiceover audio does not have to be highly produced to be effective.

eLearning: What's the Best Microphone for Voiceover Audio?

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

It doesn't matter if you use Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline or TechSmith Camtasia Studio as your eLearning tool of choice. each can produce awesome eLearning content that will be enhanced if you include voiceover audio. While I'm not saying that the resulting audio is world-class, when it comes to creating "just in time eLearning," it works great. I wanted to get some opinions on good microphones from other eLearning developers.

eLEARNING DEVELOPMENT: Polly Want a Voice?

When it comes to audio in eLearning, my experience strongly suggests that adding voiceover audio to your project enhances the learner experience. Does this mean that you need to hire professional voiceover talent? However, home-grown audio featuring you as the voiceover talent works great. Rest-assured that your voice is far better than you think and, it’s perfectly appropriate for eLearning. Worse, what if your eLearning tool doesn’t include TTS at all?

eLEARNING DEVELOPMENT: Audio, Text, or Both?

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

Over the years, I’ve taken a lot of eLearning courses; and at this point, I’ve seen it all. Some of the courses I’ve taken were clearly PowerPoint presentations and designed to be eLearning.   I’ve also seen eLearning courses developed with rapid development tools like Adobe Captivate or Articulate Storyline. And I’ve seen courses that included voiceover narration but little (or no) text on the screen… just some very dated clipart. eLearning

Writing Effective eLearning Narration: Making It Easy to Read, Say, and Comprehend

Association eLearning

Many courses rely upon voiceover to help connect with their learners. Clearly, this is not what you want to have happen with your eLearning! Also, if the narration is unnecessarily complex and long, it’s harder for the voiceover talent to say. If you can minimize your narration while maximizing the information you convey in it, your eLearning will be that much more effective. This is a solid approach and, when used well, can make for great learning experiences.

Keeping Your Learners’ Attention: How Our Brain Decides What to Focus On

A common concern arises when the topic of elearning comes up.
