Making Sense of LMS License Models. These buying organizations are working with us as LMS selection consultants to define their learning technology requirements, identify the best vendor options and then conduct a formal proposal-based buying process. However, the proposals were inconsistent in all respects — format, approach, assumptions and license model. There are more than 700 LMS vendors today, yet there is no standard usage-based LMS license model.

Emergence of the Performance Catalyst

Tom Spiglanin

A lot of these changes were brought about by the evolution of technology, but there’s also been a substantial change in the nature of jobs and, more recently, the changing nature of work itself. Sure enough, there were efforts to move formal learning to distance learning, largely through television technology, but that was nothing compared to the changes that were about to come. I Believe in the Many Emerging Roles for Learning and Development Professionals

That compelling reason is technology, specifically the Internet, facile access to it, and the pace at which it continues to grow. As employees became more adept with technology, training moved into the computer itself and elearning was born. The pace of technological change kept increasing. Employees have become accustomed to rapidly changing technology and have unparalleled access to an exponentially growing body of content and knowledge via the Internet.

Exploring medical technologies

One of my earliest jobs back in the 1980s was managing the educational technology and learning resources for several nurse education centres across the South West of England. It was fascinating exploring these new technologies, and we all learnt a lot in those pioneering years.

Connected pedagogy: Smart technology

The theme of the conference is 'connecting through educational technology' - this echoes the themes of a number of other recent conferences, many of which explore the idea of connected learning. My thoughts on this are still emerging, so please feel free to contribute your own thoughts in the comments box below. Old technologies don't die

Witnessing this scene reminds me that no matter what technologies emerge, and no matter what disruptive innovations come along, we will always have the older, more traditional media to use. We can connect to information in many ways, and we should never rule out completely the older, more traditional technologies, because they still have uses. Personal, connected digital technologies enable us to access content and interact quickly and easily. Unported License.

The first technology

Learning with 'e's

I have been working in the field of learning technologies for almost 40 years. In fact my specialism never ceases to amaze me, because there is always something new to learn, some new technology, app or software tool that is emerging, or some new theory or model that is being proposed. The phrase 'standing on the shoulders of giants' is always very apt in the world of learning technology. The first technology for me has always been language. Unported License.

How to Choose Government Competency Management Technology

Avilar

What matters most when choosing competency management technology for government? Emergency Response. With workers spread throughout the world, government agencies routinely face emergencies such as natural disasters, pandemics and civil unrest. As for when…the simple answer is that agencies need competency management systems and programs in place well before a retirement wave, a reduction in force, or the next emergency forces leaders to make fast decisions.

What we think about technology

In conversations with my own student educators recently, something else emerged. I asked them whether this was a true representation of their perceptions of using technology. Change, Learning Technologies, and the future

Attending Learning Technologies in a completely new, yet strangely familiar venue was quite an experience. London ExCel has long been the home of the BETT Show, which I have attended on many occasions, but in the last few days it has also been the home of Learning Technologies, which for umpteen years has been hosted at Olympia, on the other side of the city. I arrived with a great deal of anticipation, because Learning Technologies always holds a lot of promise.

"Technology won't replace teachers, but teachers who use technology will probably replace teachers who don't" This was just one of the contentious and thought provoking statements made at Learning Through Technology this week in Glasgow. The exchange then descended into: 'There's too much technology around' and, 'I don't know what the world is coming to.' In Alone Together (2011) Turkle implies that technology is distracting us from social interaction, and is ruining conversation: 'The relentless connection leads to a new solitude'. Jaron Lanier (2011) believes that interactive technologies are 'deadening personal interaction.' Therefore, conversation can still occur, but it is now enhanced by the technology.
