Course standards are course standards, and yes, you have the option to select CMI-5 and xAPI. What I am finding is that AICC is nearly gone in the LEP space (as it is with LMSs too), so if I was you, I’d seek SCORM, SCORM 1.2, The first three are standards that every LEP should have (so say YES on the template).

Maybe you purchased it via Open Sesame, or Skillsoft. Maybe you scored it via Wiley, but in many possibilities you purchased the content thru your LMS vendor. That said, there were some hiccups and from an entire vendor wise (expo here) angle, some unique and some, uh. This year, I estimated a 55/60% e-learning, including some ILT vendors offering some type of e-learning component. . I see way too many vendors think a web site is all they need and people will find them.

Sometimes it is a result of the vendor, other times it is a failure of due diligence on the part of the soon to be customer. The vendor’s salesperson tells you want you want to hear. I expect nothing less from the vendor. At one time, vendors were honest, stating “white papers&# as marketing materials.

The minus: vendors come out of the woodwork to tell you their system meets those needs. No vendor could say honestly that their system is the best for you, because they are missing a lot of information. Write vendors’ names on pencils and throw them at the ceiling. Whichever sticks – is your vendor.

On each Vendor listing – as you see in the above catalog example, if the vendor is in my Top 50 rankings for 2019, they will have an icon identifying them, Purple – Top 50, Dark Blue – Top 20, Green – Top 10. . In the area of transparency, these are vendors who have purchased additional options.

One of the most interesting items which presents to me an unknown variable is CMI-5, a compliance standard (formally with AICC) now headed up by ADL. Rather than go into a whole diatribe about CMI-5, I recommend you read this info on CMI-5 (put together in part from vendor RISC). – don’t. For me, though, I will no longer.

But one of the biggest problems I see at such shows are the number of vendors who in hindsight I wished I avoided. I recall at ATD this past year, a vendor who was trying to sell people ahead of time their LMS. CD2Learning.

In the past year, I have seen a wider number of vendors including the PENS course standard, which in my opinion, enables anyone who builds courses, a streamlined and fast process for publishing into a LMS/learning platform. PENS is actually a standard that was developed to make it easier to push packages (primarily SCORM) into an LMS.

These are being reported out of the larger eLearningGuild population and I would claim that they are likely more accurate than survey research that goes through the vendors themselves. Several of the LMS vendors appear more than once, such as Oracle. They can be used to see how LMS vendors stack up against particular features.
