Instructional designers were getting ready to be in high demand, especially in the corporate world. Instructional technologists was a term, many folks had heard of. The dominating authoring tool by far, was Authorware. There are even fans today of Authorware, who if it was still around, would bounce right into it.

A couple of weeks ago, David posted a challenge where community members were asked to share their storyboard templates. As you can see, there were quite a few different storyboard templates shared for downloads. There are also additional free storyboards in the community downloads section. I came into rapid e-learning from the world of Authorware and Flash where building courses took a lot of time and cost a lot more money. Initially, I only used it to storyboard my course content and interactions in PowerPoint. That made it easier to share my ideas with our Flash developers. I still hear this quite a bit.

It is time to realize that Flash output just isn’t enough anymore for folks. If you are an e-learning developer or instructional designer this has always been a favorite feature of authoring tools. I do believe that HTML5 output will continue to grow as an authoring tool feature. Layers, Triggers and Actions. Bottom Line.

Flash Widgets One of my biggest issues with Captivate as a serious eLearning tool, up to now, has been the limited feature set and the difficulty in extending that feature set. Widgets are specially formatted Flash swf files that know how to communicate with the host Captivate project. Design and layout is already taken care of.
