SCORM, LMS, AMS, LCMS, API, JITT, what does it all mean?! API- Taken from Wikipedia “an application programming interface (API) is a set of routines, protocols, and tools for building software and applications.” For example, if you create a course in Articulate Storyline, it will play in any SCORM compliant LMS.

The Wikipedia LMS learning management system definition describes it as: “a software application for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting, automation and delivery of educational courses, training programs, or learning and development programs.”. I’m even writing this document in the cloud! Wikipedia describes cloud computing as “computation, software, data access, and storage services that do not require end-user knowledge of the physical location and configuration of the system that delivers the services.” SCORM Cloud by the good folks at Rustici is an example of this.

Wiki- looks nothing like Wikipedia. Others offer a pseudo app share offering – where people can upload documents, pdfs, PowerPoints and other group members can download them or view them or both – it is basically a COP (community of practice) wrapped as social learning. RSS feed – not all offer this, but enough do.

Create an interactive course (without using scorm or Tin Can content!). Reuse content you already have like documents, presentations, videos. Embed content from YouTube , Wikipedia , Prezi , and other web sources. Prefer certain content types: Mobile devices love video, audio, and tests while they hate SCORM and iFrames.
