Audio is a powerful and impactful tool, but it is often used incorrectly within e-learning courses. I recently had a discussion with Dan Bliton in his role at the Metro DC ASTD chapter about this topic, here is a small part of the interview. Is it good to have audio to describe graphics on the screen? The general answer is no.

Time Estimates for E-Learning Development

The two sources I use for benchmarks are Bryan Chapman’s research and Karl Kapp’s ASTD research. For example, let’s say a client asks me to convert an existing full day training program to self-paced e-learning. Audio Production: 6%. Authoring/Programming: 18%. Authoring/Programming is 18% or 69 hours.
