What really bothers me more so, is when certain learning system vendors tell me they do not offer social or NexGen functionality because their clients either do not want it or because of security concerns by the client. I know people who have company laptops and thus cannot access this or that at home, including the installation of browser software, yet all these folks have a mobile device, in which they access sites. . The moment anyone uses the net, data tracking occurs.

It’s much easier than say going directly to the content provider, buying it from them and then having them talk to your LMS vendor to put it in for you (which, honestly you should do, because it will save you money). What if instead of focusing primarly on the LMS, you went courses first from a vendor and in return got the LMS for free.

Situation description: I have talked to several vendors and have received quotes at the 6-8k (per year) range for the licensing. We have roughly 500 learners and would use the LMS for mainly tracking and registration of ILT courses, communication (possibly through message boards), and posting of class materials. The development of e-Learning is being done through Captivate, so I do not need a system with authoring capabilities. Smaller vendors may not be found.
