I can honestly say, the ATD show is changing from ILT driven (it has always been that way) to e-learning improvement. This year, I estimated a 55/60% e-learning, including some ILT vendors offering some type of e-learning component. . E-Learning that is. Wanting it.

You want a system with on/off synch – a lot of systems do not have this – in fact you are more likely to find one that doesn’t than does – but it is slowly changing. Finally, ILT is still in demand – but I believe that by 2020, 95% of learning will be online and not instructor/classroom based.

Strong ILT functions (for those who offer instructor led training). Setting up the ILT functionality is again, easy to do and the features are more than robust. Right now however, that is limited to content developers who build in HTML5 or off the shelf – 3rd party vendors who create and offer courses in HTML5.

I saw a lot more folks than in previous shows and more e-learning vendors too. Equally there were several ILT vendors who had some type of online learning thing going on. Still there are plenty of hold outs on the ILT side, especially those creating “leaders” or developing coaches.

In 2010, the RCAT market continued its upswing and nothing indicates to me it will be changing anytime soon. Many vendors hyping PowerPoint to Flash angle as key feature. 57% offer a trial at various length, this is significantly higher than any other e-learning tool with over 40 vendors in the market.

The note of interest is that it is occurring with all size of vendors, albeit the charge is being led by mid size vendors. Not all of the big dog vendors have entered this space, despite it being a huge revenue opportunity. That is expected to change. While some vendors offer over 100 canned reports, may do not.

Features aside, I love the user interface which can change depending on the grade and school preferences. The system is still about synchronous based learning, which is fine, but it is nothing more than sticking ILT online. They do offer a higher education version, but this is all about K-12.
