A Look Back at 2020 for E-Learning

I will go thru several areas for e-learning, not just learning systems, although by far, it will be the most, since a lot has happened in 2020. . But overall, in my opinion, EdTech also showed all its weaknesses front and center, and way too many vendors were unprepared for the numbers of schools, universities, colleges, etc.

In Memory – Corporate Instructional Designers

A product called Macromedia Flash (being used with web sites) became a go to for course development. You added “objects” ADDIE (developed for everything but e-learning) was tapped. If you didn’t know Flash nor have an instructional design background, options were limited. I used DazzlerMax.

PowerPoint is not E-Learning and shouldn’t be used as your course tool/development – For whatever reason, there are people who have been around online learning for years, who still see PPT as a means for the creation of content – i.e. courses. A behemoth, impressive and at the same time, seen in a “Evil Empire” perspective among other vendors in the mid 2000s. This is also about a vendor who lost their way. A vendor who made not only poor business decisions with the likes of Percipio, but also with the monumental blunder of acquiring SumTotal. .
