The majority of vendors will continue, regardless of what you espouse. Now, if you want employee learning only, and you go to a vendor who only does customer training, then the initial “use case” rejection (politely) is understandable. The vendor is Skill Jar. The vendors really need to know more about the use case.

If you have seen a learning system, any system, at a trade show, such as LTUK, or ATD (coming up), or on the web, or in your dreams, you start to notice a retread. It wouldn’t surprise me if the majority of vendors who go with Gen-AI (and eventually, they all must, or they will be too far behind), use GPT (by OpenAI). Pie charts?

Vendors saying “have you looked at XYZ” (which is their system). plus all the vendors will be found in FindAnLMS), I do have systems I can recommend based on various criteria. Yet, as I have often noted, it is rarely pushed upon in an RFP, let alone a demo. And I ask it often when talking to vendors.

If they were a vendor who played in EdTech (K-12, HE) but also played into corporate and did so, not just by having clients find them, but actively through marketing, they were considered too. Strictly If the vendor was a custom shop building a system, off say Moodle or whatever code they are using that is open source? Cost is a key factor, and while authoring tool vendors are jumping into VR with new functionality, the truth of the whole matter is that VR headsets haven’t punched thru the L&D and/or training departments across the globe. . Feel confident that any LMS vendor who was won an award from E-Learning 24/7, was selected based upon a multi-set of criteria without any sway by one vendor versus another. Act 2 – Select only a vendor who is well known (name recognized). What it does mean, is that the vendor is strong in marketing and getting their name out to the general public. These two vendors are EdCast and Degreed. Getting back to being unaware, I find the same issue with a few vendors in the learning system space who are really LXPs, but have no idea. It reminded me of the vendors in the space who scream they are not an LMS, even though they hit all the standards of an LMS. .

But what you rarely hear, is something I have often been hearing, which isn’t going from any spirit, rather it is coming from some LMS vendors. Any vendor who sees you as a potential customer, should go to your web site and grab the banner/header or colors and place it in your demo before you begin.

In the good ol’ days vendors listed trials on their web sites OR if you liked what you saw in the demo, you asked them via the phone or e-mail for a trial. Authoring tools? Assessment tools? I mention this because there are vendors who continue to push towards adding performance management functionality to their learning system, with many people assuming these vendors to be, LMS vendors when it just isn’t universally true.
