Links to multiple studies done in the last several years. In 2003, there was a study that showed that all this writing online was actually making kids more comfortable with writing in general. In 2004, a study showed (like this one) that with a little instruction kids easily understood the difference between texting and writing.

Those who don't study history. Offer to IM with a co-worker who doesn't IM or Twitter with them. Get up and visit a boomer, don’t just send an email or IM. Learn the history (influences) of the boomer and X'er generation. Create cheat sheets (job aids) for yourself, verify with your boss or co-workers.(share) Be patient.

For example, Meebo is more dedicated to chat, but there’s more overhead to get hooked up (it connects all IM channels, but you’d have to be on IM). Even in the discussion, the mention of Yammer brought in the Yammer team mentioning some of their case studies, which got a bit annoying.

Collaboration: 1st day. Rez a sphere, set it to physical, pass a ball. How do you get people through the learning curve? Group Work.
