By way of background, Jeff told me that OutStart has two flavors: Participate, their general social software solution and TrainingEdge.com, their SaaS solution which includes LMS, collaborative authoring, and social media specifically configured to support learning.

I was talking with a startup that has an existing audience and now want to provide a monthly subscription for access to training to this audience. They will only convert a portion of the audience to the new service. The learners will get access to webinars, recorded webinars, videos, and other online content that they will author separately.

It is a glimpse not just into their development tool preferences, but it also provides some reflection into the approaches they take in creating courses. ToolBook authoring tool - this is the DHTML authoring tool used at my company, but prior to this I used TrainerSoft (now Outstart Trainer), which is my preference.

MICHAEL: It’s been available through OutStart since we acquired Hot Lava Software in June 2009. Leveraging mobile is an ideal way to remind learners of what they have been previously taught by providing follow-up materials as reinforcement. The device-specific applications provide the same level of tracking.

There are already great cloud tools out there, but I think we will see more e-learning development tools at the level of Flash, Captivate, Articulate, OutStart Trainer, etc. HTML5 development tools will not provide the ease of creating rich Internet applications. on the cloud. Much of which will be courtesy of open source projects.
