Looking at the free icons reminded me of simple trick we show in our PowerPoint workshops. It’s one I’ve shared in the past when I showed how to create custom shapes in PowerPoint , but today I’m adding a bit more detail. You’ll need PowerPoint 2013 or newer. There are two video tutorials below.

In this post we’ll look at an easy way to customize illustration in PowerPoint, since it’s a tool most of us have and it’s easy to do. This is an issue I run into quite a bit because I get some of my graphics from those low cost (or free) stock image sites and often they only provide a.PNG version of the file.

I present at a lot of conferences and workshops. I find the transcription on Google Slides is a lot faster and a bit more accurate than in PowerPoint. I shared a cool 3D interaction in a recent workshop demo and have had lots of people ask how I built it. The tutorial below shows how to create the video using 3D models in PowerPoint. One of my favorite sites for free stock images is Unsplash.com. They provide hundreds of free stock images with a Creative Commons Zero license. Unfortunately, while it’s great to get a boatload of free stock images, many of them are mostly decorative and hard to use for elearning courses. Download Free Stock Images.

Recently, I was working on a map demo where I needed a specific map, but I didn’t want a real map screen shot because it was too busy and I knew the stock sites couldn’t provide what I needed because it was too specific.
