One of the most interesting items which presents to me an unknown variable is CMI-5, a compliance standard (formally with AICC) now headed up by ADL. Standard adoption takes time (as we can see with xAPI), so if you are concerned or worried about having to go with CMI-5, etc. Both of these tie directly to m-learning.

I have spent the last year and a half, looking to see if there were any differences between a LMS and a learning platform. I found that in LMSs (on avg), there were more analytics, more ways to break it down, slice and dice, than there were in the learning platform space (on avg.). Learning platforms are non-traditional.

Companies and organizations involved in elearning need learning content to be compliant with some requirements, i.e. with regards to the way content is packaged and tracked within the training program. AICC is a well known industry standard: it was born in 1989 and it has had broad acceptance in the last year.

and AICC (why is there AICC? xAPI will be arriving in Q4 2015. Adobe sees the system as a LMS with LCMS features. It is a LMS, but hey if you want to pitch it equally as a LCMS go for it – since that market is drying up faster than a bunch of grapes sitting in the sun and turning into raisins.

For me, the challenges I face are the time to learn new skills. xAPI has become the valid standard for tracking all types of learning external to the LMS, yet I still haven’t developed a project, even a portfolio piece, using xAPI. They may be aware of xAPI or cmi5 but are not ready to shift.
