Last week I met several new prospective customers - training companies. The economic meltdown in the last 12-18 months has hit training companies hard. In the past, many Training Companies have been reluctant to adopt eLearning as a medium for training delivery. Most training companies have been successful in selling their trainers’ expertise (and charisma) as a USP. Corporate training budgets have been slashed and travel expenditure has been cut. The pressure on reducing costs has never been greater.
What Outliers really left me thinking about, though, was the issue of the company we keep and the ways in which we create advantageous environments for the people around us. As American's we're taught (sometimes implicitly) that we rise or fall on our own merits, that through our individual goals and activities we can achieve anything we want.  I've always had a problem with this philosophy.
