I’ve used everything from Authorware to PowerPoint to create materials. I remember a couple years ago a co-worker asked me what software program converted content to eLearning. I’m not proud of it, but early in my career, I created programs in the aforementioned format. What is eLearning, really?

I “grew-up&# in eLearning world using Director/Authorware and then moving into Flash/HTML (PPT was “off-limits&# ). Classroom training is often converted to an online format. Interface creation, navigation buttons, LMS tracking, and testing abilities are then typically added to the PPT functionality.

In the authoring tool world: PowerPoint focused authoring tool, Basically you know PPT, love it and want the ability to build within it and then convert your PPT to a Course. Nor would I select a tool that is really a PowerPoint converter. In the housing world that would be whether you want a townhouse, apt., condo, house, etc.

Is it PowerPoint converted to Flash? Microsoft Word converted to Flash? Macromedia Authorware and similar products. While some could argue that Authorware was a RCAT, I disagree. PowerPoint or Word converted to Flash, instant, virtually no add-ons, i.e. additional learning objects. Macromedia Director.
