The TIPP learning theory showed me to be Traditional Personal with a visual preference (although I was also high on the auditory scale). The MBA is fine, but you have to have experience and education (formal, certification or informal) in learning theory and learning design. I see the MBA remark as a metaphor: in the corporate world, youre not a learning academic. This type of learning is not rewarded, and is somehow viewed as not valid.
