The novelty value and opacity of technologies often prevent users from ‘seeing through them’, beyond the shiny toy with the buttons and lights, to a tool that is useful because it does something previous tools could not do (John and Wheeler, 2008). Looking back, she must have also been in her first year or two of teaching but it was the first real instance of my school life where I really wanted to please, and I remember loving all of her positive praise rewards with cuddly toys sat on the winning table and lovely laminated certificates. IPR and Creative Commons were discussed. tools and OERs which both espouse openness, and concluded with some ideas about how OERs could benefit higher education in the future. He concluded with a reference to Apple's new toy, suggesting that the iPad will do to educational resources what the iPod did to popular music.

Ive been asking various questions about technology and tools in order to get a sense of where people are at, while also soliciting ideas and input for improving the use of technology to support learning throughout their member organization. However, ideas taken from Second Life, minus the cultural trappings, could be effective.
