But that said, it also shows a failure of the current licenses. As I pointed out in my previous post, Creative Commons themselves conducted a study to understand commonly held interpretation of the understanding of the meaning of these licenses. This common interpretation is important if you are going to defend your use of licensed materials. But that leaves us with having to go and contact the license holder of each work which somewhat defeats the purpose right? What do I mean by a failure? That’s great news. | TONY KARRER NOVEMBER 18, 2010 Text-to-Speech Costs – Licensing and Pricing Text-to-Speech Examples In this post, we will look more closely at costs of Text-to-Speech and issues around TTS Voice Licensing and Pricing. The subject of TTS voice licensing and pricing is important because it helps e-learning practitioners understand which TTS tools they are legally allowed to use for their specific applications as well as letting them estimate the costs and pricing models of using these TTS tools. Strictly speaking, the vendors sell a license to use the voice software rather than selling the voice itself. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME | WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2012 Creative Commons explained (video) Here is a great explanation of the different ‘attribution’ or license elements of Creative Commons : “Creative Commons helps you share your knowledge and creativity with the world. Creative Commons develops, supports, and stewards legal and technical infrastructure that maximizes digital creativity, sharing, and innovation.” ” (Nod to @jamesclay for showing this on his blog first). TONY KARRER | TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2009 Low Cost LMS - Help Needed Situation description: I have talked to several vendors and have received quotes at the 6-8k (per year) range for the licensing. Also, my guess is that looking at License costs is probably a bad idea here since quite often there are services, hosting, etc. costs that can exceed license costs. I received an inquiry about the need for a low cost LMS solution and I've not had time to help this person with answers. I'm hoping folks can chime in with suggestions and resources. I'll try to aggregate them together. Do you have any recommendations on which programs to consider? MORE >>
