Why does learning content seem so much more exciting on an iPad?

Clive on Learning

I'm convinced that the future of e-learning will be on tablet devices. But for learning, a tablet seems such a perfect fit. It's much more likely to be used in a 'lean back' mode, which is more conducive to reflective learning. But it has a big enough screen to display just about any learning content with ease.

Over-engineered for information transfer, under-engineered for learning

Clive on Learning

I've seen some really good examples of self-study e-learning in the past few weeks. First when I sat in for a day judging for The E-Learning Awards and second during the Demo Fest at DevLearn 2011 here in Las Vegas. We over-engineer for information transfer and we under-engineer for learning. Do less formal e-learning.

Storyline and ZebraZapps: seriously powerful, seriously simple

Clive on Learning

Here at DevLearn 2011 in Las Vegas I've got authoring tools on my mind. It borrows much of the Microsoft Office look and feel, including the ribbon interface, so it's easy to learn, but inherits none of the limitations. Apart from games, e-learning is one of its last remaining niches. First up is Storyline from Articulate.

Meet me in San Jose

Clive on Learning

This weekend I'll be heading to San Jose for the eLearning Guild's DevLearn 2008 conference. M is for Media

Clive on Learning

I only got to attend two sessions when I was at DevLearn in San Jose and both happened to be about m-learning. In fact, back in 2001, I wrote an article called M is for Maybe , which expressed my reservations about the whole idea of mobile learning. If m-learning is ever going to happen, now is the time.

The ethics game

Clive on Learning

Mark Oehlert kindly invited me to contribute to the Great ILS Challenge at DevLearn 08. Now I wasn't able to get to the event, but I did submit some slides describing my ideas for a game that would "reveal the 'ethical truth' of a person" You can see my slides on SlideShare here. They should be self-explanatory.

Senior moments

Lesson learned. The price I have to pay is not only in cash, it's that I have to travel out the day before I travel back and I get to see hardly anything of San Francisco, San Jose and DevLearn. The morale is, if you're flying half way across the world and you haven't got an open ticket, you take care, lots of it.
