I've been reading a lot over the past few months around Personal Learning Environments and a lot of related material. What sparks this post is the combination of a recent post by Stephen Downes that includes a brief exchange with Jay Cross in the comments and some interesting discussions in the Enterprise 2.0

These are fair questions that are also central to the issues of the Enterprise 2.0 They would argue that the individual chooses what makes sense in their personal work and learning environment. For Wiki-like capabilities, it likely is fine for an LMS to provide these and for learning organizations to use them.

They see the benefit of the tool in a strict learning environment, but have difficulty seeing its use in an expanded role. Of course, there’s no easy answers here, but lots we can discuss and learn around this. One of the things that this group has identified as one of their “problems” is that they receive too many emails.
