The same can be said for Enterprise Learning Systems. Anyone can mention they are Enterprise, and that their learning system is for “Enterprises”, but finding the best of the best of those, isn’t so simple to quantify, let alone clarify. Employees will use whatever learning system you give them.

Why, would a system that pushes heavily around the customer education/partner training segment, acquire a vendor who does the complete opposite? If Valamis wanted to push heavy and truly commit to the CE segment, they would have acquired a vendor who has capabilities or features or even themselves plays in the CE side.

For those new, each year, I publish what I see will be the top 10 systems for the coming year, based on a set of criteria (which will be listed shortly). Too many people focus on features now, and on top of that, what the vendor says is coming. . There are vendors who focus on quality of a specific client segment, rather than mass.

Like many of you, I was surprised to find out that Skillsoft is in the process of acquiring SumTotal. HCM, among other things is all about HR (human resources), HRIS (human resources information systems) and the wherewithal of all that is part of it. The same can be said from a learning perspective. They are not.

There is no better place to see this then our fine world of e-learning, which was devised to be an umbrella term for everything that is well, online learning. An LMS thus is under e-learning. e-learning. e-learning. On the learning system side, I see it all too well. Authoring tool? Confusion Exists.

Development), which most folks in L&D have anyway, OR if you are T&D (Talent Development, which most vendors are not using as a term, even though it exists) OR HR if you are doing some Performance, then performance management is part of your domain. After all, it never focused or keyed in on learning, it keyed in on other areas.

From the learning system and learning technology standpoint (and yes, I see a difference) the PE or VC firm is the one to go to when you seek capital or seek to be acquired. They are the ones that many vendors still today, hear from, to gauge whether or not said vendor is interested in being acquired or receiving funding.
