Responding to recent ADL funding news

Experience API

I’ve spent a lot of time over the last couple of weeks learning about some things that are happening with ADL (the governing body for SCORM and closest thing we currently have to a single steward for xAPI right now). Some funding things happened at ADL, but ADL will continue to do work on xAPI and with the xAPI community. Now the long version. ADL’s funding has been reduced substantially in the short-term. I think ADL’s done a great job of this over time.

version of the Tin Can API. We can then look at whether their chosen path is effective for them (perhaps they are misguided about how they learn best). The ADL vision is actually looking this far out in the future. Being part of the DoD, ADL is considering how to provide soldiers on the battlefield with the information they need at the precise moment of need, thus increasing their performance in the field and saving lives.

The earlier version of these standards was designed for course content delivered via CD-ROMs. Over the years, SCORM has seen various improvements and version updates. It was originally a research project that was awarded to Rustici Software by ADL.

Why SCORM 2004 failed & what that means for Tin Can

eFront

Sign #3: ADL itself heavily supports Tin Can as the successor of SCORM.[4]. This meant that you could do some effective reporting on questions and the distribution of answers. This was a side-effect of high complexity. Nothing is perfect though as ADL admits [5].

Got SCORM?

ICS Learning

Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) has the complete specification (all 400+ pages of it) readily available on their site, but I was looking for a quick, “get your hands dirty” explanation that skipped all the mumbo-jumbo and would let me dive in and start trying things out. The SCORM specification, developed by Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL – [link] is a set of rules that learning management systems (LMS) and learning content follow in order to be compatible with each other.

Some Shortcomings Around Game/Simulation Research

Kapp Notes

Please, we’ve done comparative research studies for decades and always found the same result, well designed instruction, no matter what the medium is effective. Also, another interesting aspect is how the studies decide what is “effective instruction.&# Another shortcoming is that to do effective research, one must isolate variables and hold certain things constant so that valid conclusions can be drawn.

Over a year past its release as Version 1.0, It’s near impossible to to effectively manage an international standardization process that restricts scope at the document level. International adopters, outside of NATO allies, are not able to work on this through ADL for obvious reasons, but they have come (and will come) to IEEE, and all sectors of adoption are welcome to work together there.

Skillfully blending these elements together will ultimately give you the most effective training and the best results for your company. The use of interactive multimedia, if well done, can make the instruction much more interesting and effective. This solution could result in more effective training at less expense.
