I still get questions sometimes but they are usually more about what its like, can i give an example, etc. billbrandon had this comment on Twitter: I usually just tell em Im a writer. A good aggregator (like Stephen Downes) will get me the info I need so Im not missing the really juicy stuff. Im sure many of you are the same. Admittedly, I never had the pleasure or displeasure of sampling her menus, so I cant say if this method worked for her, but Ive found it works for me in the kitchen. Now Im not saying that SMEs are rats, or instructional designers are rats. There are still those who follow the recipe and end up with burnt yuck. Even a rat. Great post!

Im concerned that women will be excluded if such a focus is put on gaming skills -- or at least the gamer label. Im just raising some questions. Labels are labels, but people identify with them -- or dont identify with them as the case may be. I dont have a conclusion here. These arent games in the spirit of World of Warcraft.I

A key discovery most people make when learning about styles, whether its learning styles, DISC or MBTI, is that people may be different from they way they are in the way they take in and process information. A great example: I will not learn as well if you give me page after page of text with zillions of details.

For example. If I notice Im losing someones attention in class, Ill instantly make direct eye-contact, maybe raise an eyebrow, and start talking directly to that student, and most of the time. Im the same when teaching face-to-face -- big user of the laugh to create connection. you get their attention again.

Lots of practical ideas and examples for turning basic teaching points into learning games -- from casual games to teach facts and concepts, to detailed simulations that teach procedures and problem solving.

Im not sure if the SME was reading a script, reading the notes, or just speaking from the heart. Back to the Google Desktop -- Im playing around a bit with the searching capabilities and am seeing the light. Im struggling a bit with figuring out how to set the preferences so that it searches where I need it to search (I save most of my files to a shared network drive; not locally). So the search feature -- I get that and Im sold.
