I tend to work on things that are a bit leading edge like Data Driven performance solutions or eLearning Startups or the next great idea that someone has. So, I’m afraid that I’ve a skewed perspective.

It has helped me to develop my personal learning network (PLN) and enabled my PKM. I would say that a platform that facilitates easy and seamless interaction, forming of groups and threads, a powerful search mechanism and a way to aggregate conversations across topics (#) would be ideal for working out loud effectively.

Having said that, MOOCs require certain skills from participants, which I like to describe as " learning how to learn in the networked world." MOOCs, by virtue of being collaborative in nature, requires people to "put themselves and their ideas out there". In fact, true and deep learning takes place because of these conversations.
