The first conference on PLEs took place in the humid but tranquil Cornella area of Barcelona this week. Those attending the PLE Conference found themselves quickly immersed in discussion, dialogue and debate over the nature and ethos of the personal learning environment. The conclusion of this exercise? We couldn't agree.

We have been on several field trips, including a visit to the astounding high tech astrophysics centre and simulation basin at Black Rock Castle Observatory, near Kinsale (pictured above). Yesterday I took my 9 education students on a visit to St Columba's National Primary School , in Dughlas, just outside Cork (picture below).

When I visited there on 13th June (look - the picture is above) I saw the results - plaster casts of bodies writhing in agony as they were incincerated by the pyroclastic flow from the volcano. The Personalised Learning Environment (PLE) will take their place. Well blow over it did. All over them, tons of it. Others didn't.
