I bring this up, because after it was announced that Cornerstone will be acquiring SumTotal, the pundits went out and espoused some very interesting ideas. I never put innovation and SumTotal in the same sentence. SumTotal was never innovative. They were not the first ones with a mobile app. Bottom Line.

Or 2010 for that matter. SumTotal (Learning Management) – $$$ to $$$$. SumTotal seems to have the same issue as Cornerstone, when it comes to metrics/analytics – a lot there, bad UI/UX. Take a look at the companies: Saba (28) GeoLearning (17) SumTotal (22) Meridian (9) Cornerstone (19) You notice the counts are out of order (not descending). 2006 2010 2007 Does the associated years for SharePoint suggest it's a technology for the future? 2010 2015 2011 2013 You can pretty much do this endlessly.

There were vendors many moons ago, offering a grid look, and VLPs (appearing in 2010) offered a playlist look. Cornerstone used to do a great job at it, which is why many people have heard of them, SumTotal too. LXPs though were the first ones to really push heavy around skills especially tied to content/courses.

SumTotal is calling their product a Human Capital Management system. Sure, they offer a separate LMS called SumTotal Maestro, but their TM has surprisingly (not really) been morphed into a HCM, will others follow? Two examples: In 2010, a person at Saba was talking about their system to me. He said, you are right.

Starting around 2010, the market began changing again. SumTotal. . Sean McCarthy , SumTotal. Tim McDonnell , SumTotal Systems. A steady flurry of acquisitions disrupted customers’ lives but never the market as a whole. Innovation was stagnant and most vendor effort was invested in stealing customers from one another.
