Creating a Five Star Meal I dont know much about the starring system for restaurants, but my limited understanding knows that it has to do with the complete experience. Now Im not saying that SMEs are rats, or instructional designers are rats. I like the analogy Michele Martin uses: instructional design as cooking. Even a rat.

public school system. This hasnt gotten onto my radar before -- Im not sure if there are any state-funded online programs in Massachusetts. As I recall, she has two kids in high school who are taking online courses, and thats what got her interested in ID and e-learning. The Big Question: Instructional Design as a Spectr.

Signs you are in e-learning hell (as a designer/developer): The Help Desk calls and tells you they are receiving too many calls regarding your course and the _ (pop-up blocker, Flash Player and/or LMS sign-on). Someone shows up at your office and says "Im here for the online training."* Labels: e-Learning , LMS , SME.

Now, maybe Im just jaded and want to get to an approved storyboard. Maybe its the fact that Im recovering from pneumonia and just dont have the energy to fight the fight. When I was at Utah State, two others and I designed and developed Syllabase, an online course management system much like BlackBoard or WebCT (at the time).

Im tired people, so Im only going to say this about 1,000 more times. Look, we probably learn differently as adults than we do as children. no but you can measure performance - but people arent selling Performance management systems (those would be PMSs and marketing would NOT let that happen). Right now Im sitting in the audience listening Deborah Adler, the designer whos Masters Thesis became the redesigned Target pharmacy bottles - Clear RX. I think the big take-away from this session is that she began with a problem, people taking the wrong medicine, and then selected as her starting point - the user - not the system.

We have intranets, we have time entry systems, we have our office productivity apps, we have our browsers, we have LMSs.the problem is that we dont use all these systems all of the time and even when we are using these systems, we are typically not using all the parts of a system every time we access it.
