I used the free image to create an interactive course prototype for an upcoming workshop activity. Create a separate slide for each distinct area. In the example above I made slides for the computer, picture frame, book shelf, microphone, and calendar. Link from the main image to a slide of the isolated element.

As you can see in the image below, the original photo I used was too narrow for the slide since the image was 4:3 and the slide was 16:9. And then to fill in the blank area, I duplicated the image and cropped a sliver from one end and stretched it across the slide. Upcoming E-Learning Workshops & Events (2015).

Convert Static Images on the Slide: You can also add the image to the slide. If you look at the image below, you can see that there’s nothing on the master slides because I didn’t use any master slides. Instead all of the persistent objects on the screen are copied over all of the slides. This means that each slide takes a little longer to publish. Didn’t take advantage of the master slides.

But there’s a difference between elearning courses and slide presentations. However, it never fails that once someone knows you’re using PowerPoint to build the rapid elearning course, they apply the same rules to your elearning course that they’d apply to presentations. In a presentation, the slide is all you see.

I get a lot of questions about number of slides or screen count per hour of instruction. First, to the elearner screen count means nothing. Instead of asking about screen count (which is driven more by dumping information) focus on how to create meaningful elearning that will make the hour more productive for the learner.

In workshops we usually create a blank slide and then a box to represent all of those things above. One way to get started is to create three blank slides: one for each part of the 3C model. This lets you quickly modify your slides by changing templates, color schemes, and fonts. These are handy because with one click you can change multiple colors in your slides. This produces a slide that contains all of the colors assigned to the current themes. Tidbits: San Francisco at Devlearn on November 3-5.
