Here is just a few of ones I like, that are unique and you could use in your LMS/LCMS/CMS, Learning Portal (caveat: your vendor must be able to accept APIs, otherwise it won’t work). Why would I want to have an API in my LMS/LCMS or CMS? Social Learning? Integrate for our terms, means interface.

More of a surprise is that with the exception of 6 web conferencing vendors, who have apps specifically for the iPad/iPad2 market, you can count on one hand the number of LMS/LCMS vendors that offer the same thing. AR offers amazing capabilities in e-learning, not just courses, but from a LMS/LCMS/learning platform as a whole.

I must admit I am still in a daze on some shocking data, I saw in the last few weeks (on a side note: the new and updated version of my LMS/LCMS directory will be available for download this upcoming Tuesday). 30% vendors offer at least one type of social media – from my latest LMS directory.

The LMS/LCMS/Learning Portal market continues to be strong. In my latest directory, 393 LMS vendors – global, of which 34 or so are open source systems. Folding up shop and switching to a new market: Talent/Performance Management, new product lines not tied to e-learning, services. It was a myth.

I believe it is because many of the vendors do not want their customers to have such power. After all, if you can create a couple of APIs that provide strong social learning functionality, and the LMS vendor offers an add-on for social learning, do they really want you to put yours in? And for free?
