PowerPoint – Ability to integrate or use PPT in your courses. Some vendors push heavily on PPT, implying that a great WBT is really a PPT converted to Flash. The latter is slowly gaining speed, which is an advantage to LMS vendors who have a CAT in their own product – which is SCORM,PENS/IMS compliant.

Podcast capability – every LMS should have this feature. Leader board within “Connect” their social learning component – however, I did not see any type of incentive tied to it. Upon entering the LMS, you will see the home page. Resources – docs, video/audio files, podcasts, PPT, etc.

They see an opportunity in the SMB space where customers may not want to purchase an ERP for HR or a full blown HRIS and then purchase or have a LMS. The downside is that some of the vendors will reduce down their L/D components and focus more on the TM side of things. OpenText purchased Operital, a LMS based in Australia.

They fail to even clearly show their product, let alone present the product sans the standard PPT intro that comes with “learn more” about the solution. You can try to figure out about the product via the company’s web site, but many sites honestly are beyond awful. Talk, Talk (and no, not the band ).

An alarming rate of “get the content up now, ASAP&# regardless of what it looks like, instructional design is typically tossed out the window, especially when the ID, CD or whomever is tasked to create is handed a stream of documents in Word or PPT or some other form. Quick, Immediate, Easy to Use. Simulations only. Otherwise, L8R!
