Ability to publish to.exe, web – this has always been around, but one vendor spins it with “Offline SCORM”, then you find out this means you can download the course in its SCORM wrapper and either have it as an.exe, use it on the web (without a LMS) or publish it to a LMS. In no particular order.

Has a built in authoring tool – some are proprietary based and have no compliance standard attached to it (such as SCORM), others do. But even without SCORM or other compliance standards, there is tracking. And some simply mean you can toss content up there (usually with no compliance standard as a component). Bottom Line.

Lectora’s Snap! Lectora Snap! Lectora compares this product to Articulate Engage and frankly I think that is a mistake. Toss in SCORM 1.2/2004, does not work with a 64 bit Windows OS that has/and you using PowerPoint 2010 – since Snap! interfaces directly with the product (ribbon? Great question and no answer.

The majority of people creating the courses used authoring tools, such as Authorware (difficult to learn, but robust), Dazzler Max (I used it, learning curve though), Lectora (difficult to learn) and many others that existed then. Other fun tidbits AICC was the leader here, then came SCORM. Instructional design was actually being used.

Best of all, it is SCORM compliant. Lectora is SaaS based, which is great, but their desktop version has more options. Developed to be easy to use, albeit some are not. Why is it a good thing? Video is hot, especially the ability to create 100% video courses and place them as such in a LMS. Any negatives? Why do I say that?
