For example, Growth Engineering was a trailblazer as it relates to gamification and utilizing it within their entire platform. Plateau Learning – I never understood the love for this system. I will add there was some confusion around Litmos and the whole Plateau thing. But KA is a mobile app thing, not the LMS itself.

Since my Top 10 list of LMS vendors has been posted online, I have received quite a bit of e-mail wondering why the biggest names: Cornerstone On Demand, Saba, SumTotal and SuccessFactors are not on the list. There is a wide assumption that if a product sells a lot it means that it is better than anyone else. Think about it.

Back to the original days, who did well Plateau Learning – Today? SumTotal – Today? Owned by SumTotal – who ruined it, because by then it was GeoLearning Maestro (not that great). SumTotal called it SumTotal Maestro. It was challenging to learn, but a great product. Sure folks. I argue no.

Old-school LMS companies (like SumTotal , Plateau , Learn.com , GeoLearning and Certpoint ) were acquired by much larger talent and HR-suite providers like SAP/SuccessFactors , Infor , Oracle and IBM. With that kind of captive customer, why would a talent management LMS vendor even bother to improve its product? What can you do?
