Lectora introduced some new image editing features with Version 12 which can save time and money. Psst: Lectora supports.bmp,jpeg,png,tif,wmf and.emf file extensions). Turn on and off the Maintain Ratio button if needed. Often, most eLearning images we find aren’t perfect, and a little editing may be necessary.

Most them work perfectly in one of two aspect ratios: 1:1 (square). I usually save in PNG format. Since there are two aspect ratios, I create two PowerPoint files for my Rise graphics. You can see that I created a couple of versions. Understanding the Image Blocks in Rise. 16:9 (rectangle).

Thumbnails are reduced-size versions of images or videos that originally got their name from being about the size of a human thumbnail. The ideal thumbnail size is 1280 × 720 pixels with a minimum width of 640 pixels, and the ideal ratio for YouTube players and previews is 16:9. But, anyway, what exactly is a thumbnail?

Older versions of PowerPoint have a simple feature that lets you make a single color transparent. If you hold SHIFT and then click and drag from the corner, the image will scale up or down without changing its aspect ratio. If you do this, keep in mind, you’re not limited to the default aspect ratio in PowerPoint (4:3).

You can also choose to save a compressed version of the file in a web standard like JPEG, PNG or GIF. To proportionally adjust an image to a certain size, it has to retain the same ratio or it will be distorted. To save an image as a PSD file, click File > Save as to open the dialog box. Click the Design tab, then click Slide Size > Custom Slide Size (or click Page Setup in older versions of PowerPoint). Quick Tip: If you want to maintain certain standard proportions, try the Aspect Ratio command under the Crop option. Plan accordingly to avoid scrolling. Set the target Width and Height , then click OK.

If you look at the quote graphics in the eLearning trends article , you’ll notice that they’re a 16:9 aspect ratio. Guess what aspect ratio a video is?… For those, I created the graphics in the optimal Twitter aspect ratio of 2:1. File-Save-As, then select PNG from the dropdown. It’s not a coincidence. Save as image.
