In years past, the same dozen or so vendors competed for all the LMS market share. Nearly every vendor earned its bread and butter by selling to employee-minded buyers in HR. Congratulations to all!

Seriously though, there were plenty of vendors making their first debut at the show, and that went from great to, uh, yeah. The biggest aspect, well, at least from my writings about the show, and vendors who need a course in how to do a trade show with you know prospects walking about; was something I will get to shortly.

I don’t care if you are using an Enterprise version of an LLM, AI bias can occur Hallucinations – One vendor in our space, identifies it as a mistake (when folks are starting to use the generative AI. The version they eye is 3.5 into an LLM.

It just wasn’t me thinking this, I heard it from attendees and even other vendors who were trolling the floor. ILT heading into the online path in one way or another. From a vendor perspective there was a huge impact, but what was odd, is that some vendors still are living in the past, as though, this is a minor blip, and in 2021, everything will go back as it was – corporate wise that is. Sorry to disappoint – but it won’t. . that needed a system. Oh, and a huge chunk stinks.

Content marketplace is quite extensive, they even offer a search for Instructor option, although I found it to be heavily ILT. . Bookmarklet extension is good, and was for a time, the first vendor in the LXP market to have one, it has fallen behind the two leaders. CK Connect – Really has upped its game since my review.

That is a key piece, okay, the key piece that is used today – the data – that is the differentiator that an LRS can bring to the table – and if a vendor is using i.e. it is active in their system – can show all this wonderful data based on the learner’s actions. I know a few vendors who had multiple meetings each day with potential clients – and the ones I am referring to where LMS vendors.

In other words, some vendors say our content is micro and each piece is three minutes long. With vendors pushing micro-content you rarely see a TOC (Table of Contents), which is very doable, and honestly better for the learner. Never make your decision on buying content based on whether the content comes with it or not.

LMSs – Finally vendors took notice. Authoring Tools – With only a small sample of vendors that are SaaS based, pickings are slim. Despite overall consumer demand (not just within e-learning) for tablets, and numbers showing that tablets are outselling notebooks, e-learning vendors as whole are sitting back and waiting.

Some LMS vendors offer demos, which are usually once-off tours of the system’s features. Most vendors know this, so no matter who you ask, they’ll probably promise a seamless user experience. Some of the best LMSs for small-medium businesses are those that use game elements, like badges, points, levels, rewards, and leaderboards.

For example, there were several vendors making their debut – as in their solution – at DevLearn. Most of the times, when the person shows the card, and the vendor talks to them, it goes no where.

So, P2P hits mainstream, okay, quite a few vendors. I see some vendors including a note or comment capability to the content curation, especially with the mobile video. I’ve yet to see this extensive set of options, but I do believe that some vendor (at least a few) will offer some type of capabilities, although not as robust.

Perhaps you need an ID person, generate 250K a year, the game changes – better for you and what you want to accomplish. Charge for webinars – The days of a hybrid model where you did ILT (seminars) and did some webinars (via web conferencing) are gone. They can integrate with any learning system out there.

I can honestly say, the ATD show is changing from ILT driven (it has always been that way) to e-learning improvement. What irked my brain on a recent press release was that the vendor announced they would have over 12,000 courses from Linkedin Learning (it is the Lynda.com courses/content) in their (the vendor’s) system. . Many vendors noted that this approach was different than an LMS, because it focused on the learner and not compliance and required training (BTW, you can do the same thing in an LMS, i.e. learner-focused – after all it is the client who decides what content should be in the system).
