Many are affiliated marketing links – this is where a vendor sets up an affiliate program, and folks who are affiliates make money, when you click the link on their site to go to the vendor’s site. Personally a vendor can call their system whatever they want, but there are a few factoids to remember about micro-learning. Cumbersome? Not so much. You tell me, is that a good thing?

SumTotal is calling their product a Human Capital Management system. Sure, they offer a separate LMS called SumTotal Maestro, but their TM has surprisingly (not really) been morphed into a HCM, will others follow? Oracle then followed suit by acquiring SuccessFactors who had acquired Plateau in the past. A Call to Arms.

I mention this because there are vendors who continue to push towards adding performance management functionality to their learning system, with many people assuming these vendors to be, LMS vendors when it just isn’t universally true. What has been applying is the term mobile learning and how it it pitched to consumers in the e-learning sector, especially with LMS/LCMS/Learning platform vendors. How a vendor of this size and quality can have this business approach in this day and age is beyond me. This ranking is in reference to their business suite. Any vendor can do that. #3 SumTotal is also coming out with a new UI for their learning side. Pricing is moderate to high depending on number of users.
