Let’s see Microsoft has only been announcing the coming of Windows 8 for several months, but as usual desktop authoring tools are behind the times. I am hearing from some vendors that they are having issues with Windows 8 and that Microsoft typically makes it difficult to really make it work. Of those: 45 are SaaS based.

How many people create courses in PPT and just upload it? If you are creating a course, you are not creating a presentation, or playing as though you are PowerPoint or whatever crummy name Apple uses to call their presentation program. Now cross-reference that over a time period of one year, with data for each month.

Remember when Microsoft Office first erupted onto the scene, and we all had to learn how to incorporate PowerPoint into our business meetings? Operating in the exact same way as PPT, changing text, player templates and colour schemes couldn’t be easier. It’s familiar. It’s straightforward. Why we should banish it: It’s tedious.

Drag n Drop with lots of objects, add the ability to API from Dropbox, Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive right into your SaaS Authoring Tool, allow other API possibilities as well (that make sense). Recently added the ability to publish a storyboard in Microsoft Word. Desktop survives – Why, oh why is this still around?

Microsoft Live – same thing. Remember when only a few offered the PPT to Flash option in their tools? Adobe Photoshop Express – in the cloud and very popular. Google Docs – ever heard of em? The list goes on and on. If anything because it delays rollout. What happened? Everyone started to include it. Same thing.

Just like an Apple computer vs. a Windows computer, each LMS offers a similar solution but is built differently.
