But what really caught my eye was the statement: For information-seekers using their favorite search engine, quality is simple to define. Yet it is increasingly likely that they will first search Google; the article that shows up on the first page of results will be a winner no matter what its published pedigree.

Other Than Google My first recommendation is not to always default to Google. Yes, I personally use Google 95%+ for searching. But I do sometimes jump to other search engines. people search) than to leverage other search engines. It also helps you refine your search before you go into Google.

Interestingly, Google has managed to find this particular post as the one that is most relevant to that term. While I had dismissed it, I'm now no longer #1 for the search - top ten lamest people - even though I was yesterday before Google spidered this page. Amazingly, I only recently found out that in transitioning from the old to new Blogger versions, Google was nice enough to add something to my blog: meta name="ROBOTS" content="NOINDEX,NOFOLLOW" This tells the search engine spiders to ignore your page. So, no search engine traffic and Google's blog search didn't work for me.

From Bill Ives - Where Tagging Works and Where Tagging Doesn’t Work – Search Engine Lowdown I guess I tend to agree with Danny Sulliivan about the tagging and search but that is not the original intention of tagging. If I want to search on a key word, I will still go to Google as the most efficient way.
