Too many people focus on features now, and on top of that, what the vendor says is coming. . There are vendors who focus on quality of a specific client segment, rather than mass.

In a little over two months, my 2016 Top 50 LMS Report will be available for purchase. And yeah there are vendors who will taut that they are in X list or Y rankings and thus should be included. Even open source systems. Are they better than every other vendor in the market? It’s nearly here. Not everyone gets in.

This show isn’t for the faint of heart or for those who realize they overspent on their LMS, no siree. A ct 1 - A good LMS is one that costs a lot of money. There are plenty of fantastic systems out there that will cost you anywhere from 20 thousand dollars to 65 thousand dollars for 1,000 users, minus the one time setup fee.

I admit have the time when I look at a few from the larger name entities, I can’t figure out how that vendor got to that part of that grid, what in the heck does that mean, and why is that vendor who isn’t even a learning system, appearing in that section of the grid over there? Grids are confusing.

If you have or are looking for an LMS, perhaps someone in your company or department has mentioned that this X vendor or Y vendor either isn’t known or they have never heard of them and thus it is better to go with a well-known vendor, because they must be better – I mean look at all the folks they have.

When you look at the market today, the LMS and sub-genre has changed. Nowadays at least to me, the applicable umbrella term should be and will be Learning Systems. Game based learning systems for example, slide under learning platforms. 15th, albeit, I will be working on adding vendors, etc.

Y o u may be sitting right now with third party content in your LMS. Maybe you scored it via Wiley, but in many possibilities you purchased the content thru your LMS vendor. I recall going directly to Rosetta Stone, buying some an entire Latin American course unit from them and having them place it into my LMS for me.

Trends at the show – vendor wise, some real surprises, some not. . As I hit the floor, I saw only a couple of vendors. . There were vendors on the video angle, but again it was not a “hot scene” vendor wise. Missed opportunity for a lot of vendors in the video arena. . Glad you asked.

Nowadays every learning system vendor out there will tell you their system is Next Generation or some nuanced spin that goes towards NexGen. The problem is that for most of the systems, it just isn’t the case. This is due to a couple of key factors: They do not know what constitutes a system to be NexGen.

Across the system though it is still a mixed bag, some nice, some improvements needed. 9 SumTotal Learn – UI/UX is strong. System now comes with 80 courses (titles were unavailable to me during this post). A lot of potential for this learning engagement platform. Another vendor to watch in 2018. . #6

Target audience focus – Employee-focused is gaining traction – this means the system is heavily tilted or focused on employees only (if you want to use the system for customer education/training, you can – after all you are the client. The majority of vendors in the industry slide into the $$ to $$$ area.
