When combining the activities we can use different weights for different activities. A study is cited in which researchers looked at brain activity while subjects learned how to build a structure with Tinker Toys. Not surprisingly, a lot more activity was seen if test subjects were watching to learn (anticipating that they were to do the task later) vs. watching only. Weed out the fluff. Games for Girls.

Instructional designers can take the tools and create a good learning experience or not. Self-direct learning experience == a standard course prepared and available on a web site. Learning objects: standard small chunks put together and done in a rapid e-learning experience. People dont learn in chunks.

A key discovery most people make when learning about styles, whether its learning styles, DISC or MBTI, is that people may be different from they way they are in the way they take in and process information. Mixed visual-auditory stimuli have an underadditive effect, so that if you have to do both at the same time, total brain activation goes down. In Ruth Clarks book e-Learning and the Science of Instruction , we learned not to ask a channel to multi-task. Im not sure what to make of it, honestly. Lesson learned here.
