Learning Circuits April Big Question: Are We There Yet

Kapp Notes

The Learning Circuit's Blog question for this month is " ILT and Off-The-Shelf Vendors, What Should they Do ?" I am going to answer that question by recanting a story from Gadgets, Games and Gizmos for Learning. It also gives me verbal turn-by-turn directions from a female voice named “Jill.” The GPS has eliminated both my need to print directions from the internet and the danger of trying to read instructions at 60 miles an hour.

Voice-Over in eLearning

The Learning Circuits

However, there was a comment on one of my posts that made me realize that the discussion of the use of voice-over in eLearning was far beyond the conversation that Joel and I were having. There is no substitute for a professional voice talent, who can interpret the meaning and message of your e-learning scripts. A good voice talent knows how and when to change up the tone or feel of a read when things are getting overly technical or have gone on a while.

eLearning Cyclops: An On-Demand Scenario #LCBQ

eLearning Cyclops

This months Big Question at Learning Circuits is "How do we need to change in what we do in order to address learning/performance needs that are on-demand?" FYI: This post may not directly address the question of how we need to change but rather be an example of what is done in one particular "on-demand" scenario. The Future of Workplace Learning

Upside Learning

This month’s Big Question from the Learning Circuits blog asks: If you peer inside an organization in 10 years time and you look at how workplace learning is being supported by that organization, what will you see? …. To respond to the Big Question, I put on my futurist glasses, set them to 10 years forward, and this is what I see: 1. The big question - PowerPoint, what is appropriate, when and why?

Clive on Learning

May's Big Question in the Learning Curcuits Blog is PowerPoint: what is appropriate, when and why? Now I have just finished a three part posting on the subject of visualisation, so the body of my answer to this question can be found there: The power of pictures - part 1 The power of pictures - part 2 The power of pictures - part 3 But I can't resist trying to draw my thoughts on the subject together in some way so here goes.

What Tools Should We Learn?

NuggetHead

by Kevin on June 7th, 2010 The Big Question at the Learning Circuit’s Blog for June is “What Tools Should We Learn?” Everything from project management, writing, voice recording, designing graphics, developing the eLearning interface, publishing to SCORM for use on an LMS, and finally course tracking and analysis through reporting. If the need is not that often, it’s easy to hire out the voice recordings or the video production.

Text-to-Speech vs Human Narration for eLearning

Tony Karrer

Some challenging questions are being raised in this month’s Big Question - Voice Over in eLearning. Some of the key questions: Given the range of solutions for voice-over from text-to-speech, home-grown human voice-over, professional voice-over: how do you decide what's right for your course? We attacked these questions a little differently than the big question. Why not use human voice-over?

Text-to-Speech eLearning Tools - Integrated Products

Tony Karrer

If this topic is of interest, then also check out the Big Question this month: Voice Over in eLearning. The first requirement is obvious: TTS voices with audio distribution license, which are of acceptable quality for eLearning applications, should be provided. Subtitles should be automatically created from the input text, formatted and coordinated with the speaking voice. Easy to modulate the voice. The Acapela Heather voice is used.

Using Punctuation and Mark-Up Language to Increase Text-to-Speech Quality

Tony Karrer

One of the concerns raised by various comments during the series has been around the quality of the results of Text-to-Speech (TTS) Voices and if that was suitable for eLearning. In this post we’ll take a different cut at it by looking at how authors can use punctuation and mark-up language with TTS voices to bring out the meaning of the text more accurately and to make them more interesting. A great deal more information per slide can be transferred with voice than with plain text.

7 Things to Know About Your Learners Before Launch

LearnDash

There’s just one question you’ve forgotten to ask, and if you don’t think about it now, it may come back to haunt you: Who is your course for? It may seem like an obvious question to ask, but many instructors get all the way to launch without clearly defining their audience. The trick is to know what information you need so that you can ask the right questions. It will also help you break away from a generic tone as you develop a stronger brand voice.

eLearning Script Tools

Tony Karrer

The scripts are for eLearning with media (voice-over and video). I'll try to compile things in this post a bit like we do in the Big Question so that it becomes a pretty good resource based on responses. I received an inquiry from a reader who was trying to find tools that they should use for creating their eLearning Script. They are in a Mac and PC environment and they have to pass scripts around fairly widely for review and input.
