SumTotal Learning Management – They have come a long way. I readily admit for the longest time I was not a fan of SumTotal, but that was then, this is now. I’d like to see more on the administration side, and while the system is top tier, to me it is still missing some data visualization tied to extensive metric data.

Another big-time player in the learning technology/system space is Vista Equity, a PE, who at one-time in the 2009-time frame owned SumTotal. SumTotal is calling their product a Human Capital Management system. Sure, they offer a separate LMS called SumTotal Maestro, but their TM has surprisingly (not really) been morphed into a HCM, will others follow? As he was discussing it, I said to him, it seems that you guys really see the system as a talent management system.

Take a look at the companies: Saba (28) GeoLearning (17) SumTotal (22) Meridian (9) Cornerstone (19) You notice the counts are out of order (not descending). The years associated with Wiki suggest it was more discussed a couple years ago and now is discussed less. Twitter is a hot topic right now as compared to some others.

SumTotal by Skillsoft. According to a source, SumTotal is coming out with a new revamped version – including UI in 2016. I have reached out to SumTotal about seeing this latest version in the next few weeks. The system is lacking a lot of items and so far, nothing has been added since my last discussion with them.

One vendor I saw recently, noted they are a “sales learning platform,” but upon discussion, agreed they are a sales enablement platform. What they are thinking is that they think all LMSs are Cornerstone, Saba, SumTotal, SuccessFactors, and they are not. Then LXPs – which are the fastest growing segment.

SumTotal – I should add that in a previous e-mail discussion (which will be posted in my Linkedin group) they backed away from having me see the system front and back for a product review. One person I chatted with, told me that to get some information, the vendor decided to verify/assess whether this person was a candidate.
