6 Emerging Technologies in Education

The Horizon Report has identified six technology disciplines that are emerging within classrooms across the United States. Personal Learning Environments - A personal learning environment (PLE) is not just a technology, but also an approach/process that is designed with the individual in mind, and therefore different from one learning to another. It certainly is an exciting time to be involved with learning and technology.

4 Key Emerging Trends in LMS

Upside Learning

Cloud computing is emerging as an inexpensive, quick and efficient way of delivering training through LMS. 2.Personal Learning Environment (PLE). Over the years, Personal Learning Environment (PLE) in LMS has seen several additions of features – some which worked well with the end users and some irrelevant ones that have pulled out eventually. More than 2 years back, I had carried out a SWOT analysis of the LMS to get some understanding on the LMS scenario.

Interestingly, the students reported that they found the blogs useful for reflecting on action, and the authors postulate that with tutor support over a greater period of study time, meta-reflection might emerge as a result of prolonged blog writing, and revisiting of content. The second PLE paper by Cascero et al, proposes an even deeper form of compromise, suggesting a middle ground between institutional provision and personalised tools and spaces. An institutional PLE?

Why should we question whether students have the competency to build their own PLEs, when in fact most learners already have their own PLE structure of tools sorted out when they arrive at university. As they gain more knowledge of their subject, broaden their personal learning networks and gain access to more content, so they modify their PLE to accommodate all the necessary storage, tagging and co-creation of content that ensues. First off, I have to say that this entire PLE conversation hasnt really sparked much for me. Maybe it was even "personal learning" before the term PLE came along. I dont see a traditional corporation every truly embracing the theme of PLE -- at least in the pure sense of the term "personal". So, you have a PLE if : If youre interested in personal growth and development. To have a PLE, do you need to first be aware that you are learning?

So the PLE conversation has been, for me, framed in terms of the LMS and tools. How do you make an LMS into a PLE? And it started dawning on me that the PLE was about a revolution in learning -- about teaching people to learn -- about empowering individuals to take control of their own learning environments, their futures. PLE is a concept. Tom Haskins wrote, "Life is my PLE." The PLE is not a corporate responsibility, but a societal one.
