Business applications of Twitter

E-Learning Provocateur

Earlier this week, I attended a Twitter Camp billed Twitter is not for dummies. I had the privilege of facilitating one of the breakout sessions, which focused on the business applications of Twitter. In a nutshell, I see the business applications of Twitter falling into three main categories: 1. Twitter is used by many as a loudspeaker to vent their displeasure at bad service. Suddenly Twitter comes into its own as an alternative communications medium.

Foching up social media

E-Learning Provocateur

It’s alive and well in modern corporations, perhaps most conspicuously in relation to social media. Many executives still don’t “get” social media. Help them make the mental leap from what social media is currently being used for (at least in their world) to what it could be used for – particularly in terms of customer service, sales, marketing, public relations, communication, engagement, collaboration and innovation.

Social networking is king

E-Learning Provocateur

Another principle that resonated with me was, in my own words: Social networking is king. Social networking has been around since the dawn of time. However, the exponential growth of online platforms such as Facebook and Twitter has taken it to a whole new stratosphere. They mean millions of people are connected to millions of other people via Web 2.0 Simple: it’s a social network for people who are interested in scrapbooking and crafts.

The 10 Commandments of Microblogging

E-Learning Provocateur

As microblogging solutions such as Yammer sweep across the corporate sector, a melting pot of social media veterans and newbies inevitably begins to boil. Some don’t even have a Facebook account, let alone Twitter. The point of an enterprise-wide microblog is that it generates value. Of course, I’m not going to pretend that social media veterans role model these 10 Commandments like modern-day disciples.

A circular argument
