If you look at the slow creep up the application stack of open-source solutions (OS, app server, database, CRM), then its easy to see the pattern. Fun Interactions - Hot Potato * Audio Editing - Audacity and I know there's some that do essentially PPT + audio, lots of ways to create podcasts, video, and the list goes on.

When you develop courses within a 3 rd party Authoring tool you are able to publish and keep those courses under your safe umbrella/on your server, outside of your LMS. #2: What’s Yours Should Stay YOURS. The best LCMS for you may not contain the best Authoring Tool and vice versa. 5: Plays Well With Others = Compatibility.

So you can have your PPT or whatever docs and upload them into the presentation while you are taking. Upload your PPT or docs or whatever ahead of time. Does the recording stay on the vendor’s server and attendees access it? If it is on their server, what data do you get? sadly do not follow one universal approach.

Systems that are only available as hosted on your own servers are starting to significantly decline. Equally of interest, are the increase in open source systems that offer for a fee, hosting on their own servers, rather than on yours. Oh, they offer SaaS for a fee, but you can host it on your own servers for free. Prediction.

Basically, I just publish to web, and then put the published file on the server. Every time i make PPT presenations I get confused what colors. I don’t have the demos running through an LMS or AO since I don’t need to track them. That alleviates the need for extra clicks. Hope that answered the question.

PowerPoint still reigns – If you are a course purist, the idea that PPT should be seen as an authoring tool should make you grumble with disgust. . Yes, you can use it for many different things, and yes, Microsoft has an add-on that turns PPT into something similar to Adobe Presenter. PowerPoint is presentation software.

If your goal is just to post the course on a server and let people access it, just for the sake of learning and you don’t care about tracking of any sort – then no, you do not need any compliance standard. Yeah, you can upload word docs, PPT, etc. Why would I want a SaaS solution over hosted on my own servers product?

The days of people going directly to the courseware provider, getting the courses, and then having them either in their LMS or sitting on the courseware providers servers, with behind the scenes LMS appearance, is slowing down. You work online via the servers of your vendor. Remember when only a few offered the PPT to Flash option in their tools? Desktop: Software is installed on your hard drive of your computer and you work on your computer. SaaS: Software is in the cloud, on the internet. Everything is saved online. If anything because it delays rollout.
